Romare Bearden and Adelaide Cromwell (Hill), renowned scholar and mother of Anthony Cromwell Hill, were members of the Black Academy of Arts and Letters. Romare Bearden studied art at Boston University for two years, and Adelaide Cromwell founded BU's African American Studies program.
